Handling an Emergency Service

The first item that is common for emergency services following fire or smoke damages is board ups. We board up any openings that were damaged by either the fire department or the fire itself. The fire department tends to cause damage to the entry door/store front as they need to kick it in for quick entry. They also commonly break windows to assist in fighting the fire. The fire itself can cause damage to the garage door, other doors and windows throughout the property. Board ups are utilized in cases where an entry way or window has been damaged or taken out for repair purposes. Boarding up these types of openings ensures that the property remains secured and prevents unwanted trespassers from intruding.

The second step following fire or smoke damage is to properly tarp the roof to ensure that secondary damage doesn’t occur in the residence. Weather conditions like wind or rain can threaten a home or commercial building that is undergoing ongoing repairs or where roof damage is still present. Roof covers are a temporary solution until a proper fix can be made.

The third step following fire or smoke damage is to properly secure the property when necessary and install temporary fencing around the perimeter. Temporary fencing is used when building a permanent fence is either impractical or unneeded. Temporary fencing is most commonly used as security fencing for building sites and is always recommended after a severe fire to prevent people from entering the property. As an owner, you are still responsible if someone gets hurt while on your property, even after a fire—all the more reason to secure the property with temporary fencing.
